Watervale is a historic Inn and Resort located on Lower Herring Lake in Arcadia, Michigan.

Reservations

For the wedding weekend, we have arranged to have the entire resort! This means all guests are welcome to enjoy a relaxing weekend with all wedding activities on-site. Watervale accommodations consist of 14 shared cottages, and 20 rooms at the Inn.

Guests attending the wedding and want to stay at the resort DO NOT need to make reservations at Watervale! We ask that you do not contact Watervale directly. Watervale has asked that WE arrange the guests in the cottages and hotel for the weekend. Please put the day you are arriving and the number of people in your party on the RSVP card. Note- you will most likely be sharing a cottage.

Each cottage is unique & charming, most with multiple bedrooms, baths, kitchen and living rooms. We will do our best to match you with family and friends, but please be open to having a fun weekend and making NEW friends! There is no phone, TV, or internet at any of the cottages, so come prepared to relax and celebrate! Think of Watervale as a rustic B&B.

The wedding weekend rate is $55.00 per person per night and includes breakfast at the Inn, Saturday and Sunday morning. The rate for children 10 and under is half price per night. Watervale DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS only personal checks and cash. Payment is made to Watervale when you check-in.

What to Bring

Clothing:

Average temperatures in Michigan in September are typically in the 70's during the day and a chilly 50's in the night . Watervale is surrounded by 2 lakes and includes a tennis court, volley ball, beaches, and beautiful hiking in the woods and to the sand dunes. We reccommend you bring a swimsuit and sweaters/jackets.

Gear:

Flashlights, beach towel/chair, sunscreen, sunglasses, hiking shoes, music (player), snacks/drinks for your cabin (if you like!) Cottages at Watervale do not have irons or hairdryers so if you need 'em, bring 'em!

Row boats, kayaks and canoes are all for rent to use on Lower Herring Lake and if the sun is shining, we will be taking a group hike to "Baldy" to run down the sand dunes into the lake!

Getting There

Flying:

Guests may fly into Chicago, O'hare or Midway, Grand Rapids, MI or Traverse City, MI Airports. Southwest airlines has hubs in both Chicago and Grand Rapids. There is driving time associated no matter where you fly in! Its possible to carpool/rent cars with people you know, and we are happy to help coordinate people coming from overseas!

Driving times:

From Chicago is approximately 5 hours.

From Toronto is approximately 7.5 hours

From Grand Rapids is approximately 2.5 hours

from Traverse City, MI is approximately 1 hour

From Chicago

Take I-90 to I-94 East into Michigan. Just past Benton Harbor, MI, turn north onto Michigan Highway 31 (also called I-196 in southern Michigan). Follow M-31 north through Holland, Grand Haven, Muskegon and Ludington. (At Ludington, M-31 ends as a two lane divided highway and you exit right, but the name remains the same.) On the north side of Manistee, pass the intersection of M-31 and M-55 and pass the Manistee Airport (both on the right), turn left onto M-22 near the gaming casino on your left. Follow M-22 through the towns of Onekama and Arcadia. Watervale Road will be on the left side of M-22 about six miles north of Arcadia. Turn left onto Watervale Road. Follow the road approximately .8 miles and turn right at the sign for Watervale Inn. Drive straight to the water of Lower Herring Lake, turn left, park and head to the Inn for check-in and for directions to your cottage.

From Toronto

From Toronto, take Hwy 401 W to merge onto HWY-402 W via EXIT 183 toward Sarnia (Portions toll) (Crossing into Michigan, United States).

From South Eastern Michigan and points east

I-90 West to Toledo. Follow signs to Michigan Highway 23 (towards Ann Arbor). This exit will lead you on I-475 north through Mauni to M-23 north. Follow M-23/I-75 north past Flint and Saginaw to Bay City. Take M-10 west to Clare. Just past Clare, pick up M-115 north through Cadillac and Mesick until it dead ends in Benzonia. At the intersection of M-115 and M-31, turn north (right) on M-31 for about one mile. You will see both a McDonalds and the Honor State Bank on your left and Shop-N-Save grocery on your right. Just before the bank, turn left onto Grace Road. Drive several miles and turn right onto M-22 at the stop sign (a T). Drive over a large hill and about one mile from the bottom of the hill (after passing a church and a cemetery on the right) you will come to Watervale Road. Turn right onto Watervale Road. Follow the road approximately .8 miles and turn right at the sign for Watervale Inn. Drive straight to the water of Lower Herring Lake, turn left, park and head to the Inn for check-in and for directions to your cottage.
